Read Something, Say Something

I have shared two articles with you in class.  The first was Tiny Cavers, about the discovery of a new early human species.  The second was Overthinking Worriers, about how overthinking worriers may be creative geniuses.   Please read one of these articles and write a comment below, tell us what article you read and tell us about what you thought was most interesting in that article.

  1. Tiny Cavers: This amazing discovery of a new species of ancient human makes me wonder how many more species are undiscovered in caves around the world. What I found most interesting was how similar this species is to us and apes with ape-like shoulders and human-like hands.

  2. Overthinking Worriers: This article describes me perfectly. People who do worry see problems before they are there especially about deadlines. I always make sure I finish something in advance just in case something goes wrong and have multiple back up plans even though it encourages the overthinking worrier.

  3. Overthinking Worriers: This article describes how over thinkers are usually the most creative people. I am a very creative person; however, I am also the type of person who worries over almost everything. I pay close attention to little details especially when I am being graded. I always have a back up plan or I am prepared to quickly come up with one. My creativity is not always influenced by the anxiety and worries in my life, but helps me relax and get away from all of the worries.

  4. Overthinking Worriers: This article definitely describes the AP Biology class. Well, most of us anyways. This explains the give and take relationship when it comes to knowledge. With knowledge, people will overthink and worry, but creativity and genius stems from these attributes. I can relate to this article, however, to explain me completely it needs to have procrastination in the title.

  5. Tiny Cavers: Such an interesting and rare find. I love learning about history, and finding out that there may have been a whole other species of human living side by side homo sapiens is no exception. The theory that the ancient hominins had a burial system even with a brain the size of an ape makes you think. Modern day animals with smaller brains may have more of a thought-process than we believe.

  6. Overthinking worriers: I feel that this article is me and describes my school life. It explains how over thinkers stress out about things because they do not know how else to cope, so they make up things to worry about. I feel that if I am not stressing about one course, I make myself stress about about another one because that's just how I live these days. The article also discusses how over thinkers are the creators, which I haven't really figured that one out yet but maybe that will come with the trait later on and I worry as much because I'll be creative :)

  7. Overthinking worriers: I am unsure whether or not his article applies to my life on a daily basis. I used to stress everything, try to perfect it as much as possible, and turn it in last minute. I still do many o these things, but since I have had a job I do not have time everyday of the week to do things. This has forced me to think ahead. I try to complete many things in advance now, I usually end up adding a few details right before its due, but it is not as time consuming. I feel less stress when I am at home or school doing homework. It's actually relaxing to me. Whereas if I'm out having fun I usually just think about all of the productive things I could be doing in the same time and it stresses me out. I feel like this article described my life perfectly until recently this year. I have begun to just think about what needs to be done, and do it, without any pressure or stress. Maybe I should be stressing about some things, but my motivation to stress stuff is gone. Maybe I have stopped stressing things simply because of my lack of energy. Whatever the case, I feel as if my stress levels have decreased. The article speaks of creativity. I attempt to be creative and artsy sometimes, but it usually doesn't work out. I start with a great image in my head of how whatever I am creating at the moment will look when completed. I find the image in my head is unrealistic more often than not, and it depletes my motivation to be creative in the future.

  8. Overthinking Worriers: This article seems to describe many people in our classroom. I categorize myself as an ambivert because I can be an introvert and an extrovert at times. I feel like I am in constant thought, thinking of things and it noticeable because people are telling me that I look lost at times and are asking me if I am alright. The answer I give them is that "I am thinking." I spend a lot of time starring at nothing, just thinking and sometimes, I am not even sure what I am thinking about.

  9. The discovery of a new homo-genus species adds a facet to the increasingly lengthy timeline of the evolution of humans. Scientists have discovered a new species which supports the straight-line evolution pathway for humans. Although the article discusses the stress the covers experienced, I would like to emphasize the appreciation the scientific community expresses for their contribution to evolutionary theory. The cave is very deep, dark, and claustrophobic; I could not last seconds, much less spend hours there tediously collecting bone-fossil fragments. The other scientists who see fit to bash upon Berger for not working quicker to discover the time of the new species' existence. To counter their aggressive nature towards this topic, scientists need to relax. No one else is referred to as having made the discovery; thus, no other scientists have earned the right to make contributions to his discovery yet. And the other hand, by lingering, Berger constricts the availability of extensions of research regarding his discovery of a new species. Other scientist want to validate, negate, or extend upon his new species as well as grow their own research based upon his anthropological conclusions. The anatomy of the species (odd bone structure, hands for climbing, short stature, low brain size) contributes to the assumptions of the behaviors of the species as well as others. Burial rituals not commonly performed by prehistoric Homo species are noted in Berger's find, yet, the species has a comparatively small brain. Others desire access to the information in order to expose behavioral pattern similar to Berger's species. Others want to validate and grow upon their own work, but Berger dawdles and limits the available research to be made based on his work. It is the duty of scientist to publish their work, and Berger fails to do so. Whether it be because he lacks information or because he's lazy, it is his duty as a scientist to publish his discovery and complete the necessary information for proper analysis of the species.

  10. This article is funny because everyone worries so everyone that has ever read it was probably like oh I worry I miust be a genius.I believe that creative geniuses are overthinking worriers, but I do not believe that everyone that worries is a creative genius. I believe those that overthink and worry about their success are the ones who are creative geniuses. with this stress they are motivated to perfect their work and accomplish their goals. Creative geniuses overthink and over analyze their finished work to the point where they could be concidered to be OCD. On the other hand, those who finish a task and shut their mind off free of worry about their success in the task are passive and therefore not creative geniuses. Being an overthinking worrier is good in my opinion and those who use the stress to their power can be creative geniuses

  11. I read the over thinking worriers article. I started reading the article and expected to come out at the end thinking I was pretty smart and creative and that was the cause of my worries but it just made me realize I really should not be categorized as a creative genius. I just have anxiety in general I guess and I do not use my stress and anxiety to my advantage like I should. Most of my worrying could be put to better use if it actually made me apply myself instead of just increasing my procrastination and the increase of procrastination leads me to be even more worried and stressed out. It's kinda a vicious cycle lately.

  12. Overthinking Worriers: While reading this article, I realized this is definitely not me! I usually procrastinate instead of making sure my stuff is done in advance. I really don't freak out over stuff. For example, our lab report over photosynthesis has several people stressing out and I'm just thinking "ehh, I got this. No reason to stress." If anything, stress comes from a different part of my life causing me to worry, like letting my teammates down. I hate that more than anything in the world! And sometimes I do worry about it wayyyy too much. Right now, I'm kind of stressing because I hope this didn't have to be grammatically correct! Haha. So this is me, completely layed back, laying on my couch typing this. Definitely the complete opposite of an overthinking worrier. And this is why I am not creative one bit. :)

    1. Tiny Cavers: I find it interesting to think about other human-like species and how they might have interacted with ancient humans. On a broader spectrum it is fascianting to think about the possibility of one of these species having become the dominate on the planet and if those genomes could co exist with humans. Back on the topic of the article, many human like species are found within Africa which is also the continent scientists believe the first humans to be from. It raises many questions on the origins of each of these species and our own that are very interesting. Finally it begs to differ why these other species could not even coexist with humans. Many people believe humans are closely related to primates (which if you have not noticed still exist) so why would primates have been able to survive and outlive their more intelligent (though weaker) rivals. Maybe the other species were procrastinators who could not remember to post on their blog in time and , thus, got a late grade. For now , we will not know and only time will tell as more discoveries such as this are made.
